Murray State struggled against the high-powered Stanford offense, closing the second day of the DeMarini Invitational with a 14-2 loss against the 14th-ranked Cardinal in five innings.
Murray State starter Chelsey Sullivan struggled with her command in the opening frame, walking the first two Cardinal batters on eight straight pitches and hitting one to load the bases before a consecutive pair of hits scored four.
Jenna Bradley got the Racers (2-8) first hit of the game with a hard grounder underneath the glove of Stanford pitcher Ashley Chin, but ended the inning stranded at first.
Stanford (16-3) continue scoring in the second, using a pair of home runs to opposite sides of the field to increase its lead to 7-0 after the top of the second.
Bradley picked up her second outfield assist of the weekend, catching Prong trying to stretch at second after a deep single to center field for the inning's second out.
The Racers threatened in the bottom of the third with a Lauren Buch walk and Megan Glosser single through the left side of the infield after Alaina Zloty replaced Buch at first on a fielder's choice. MSU was unable to score, following with a fly out to center and ground out to short to end the inning.
Ahead 8-0 in the fourth, Stanford jacked a three-run home run off the bat of Caitlyn Pura over the fence in left to take a commanding 11-run lead.
MSU showed life in the bottom half of the inning as Stephanie Edwards and Leslie Bridges both singled into left with one out, but the inning ended following a strike out and force play at third to keep the Racers off the scoreboard.
The Cardinal added three more in the top of the fifth, increasing their lead to 14-0.
The Racers scored two in the fifth as Glosser lined a double down the line into left field and Bradley took a Chinn offering deep to center field for her first home run of the season.
Murray State wraps up action in California Sunday morning, meeting Iowa at 11 a.m. in its lone game of the day.
