Racers Close Out Home Conference Schedule With Tennessee State

GAME NOTES
Murray State (18-24, 9-14 OVC) softball will look to complete its home portion of the Ohio Valley Conference schedule in winning fashion along with raising money for the fight against cancer as the Racers host Tennessee State (11-41, 5-22) for a three game set April 30-May 1 beginning at 1 p.m. both days.
Murray State softball and Gatti's Pizza will be teaming up on April 30 for Strikeout Cancer as the to raise money for the fight against cancer. Donations can be made on a per strikeout basis or flat amount with all proceeds going towards research and development for the fight against breast cancer. Strikeout Cancer is a collaboration between the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and the American Cancer Association.
Murray State will also be thanking seniors Jenna Bradley, Kristen Broadway, Lauren Buch, Stephanie Mattocks and Taylor Wilson in a pre-game ceremony for their contributions over the previous two season.
The Racers took two of three from Eastern Kentucky last weekend, sweeping in Saturday's action with wins of 14-4 and 9-7 before dropping Sunday's lone contest 8-9 to stay in the mix for the sixth and final spot in to the OVC Tournament. MSU is half a game behind sixth-place Morehead State and is tied with Tennessee Tech for seventh.
Jenna Bradley dominated at the plate last weekend, hitting three home runs in the series and leading the Racers with a .714 average with five hits in seven official at-bats. She hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third of the second game as to help the Racers come back in the two run victory.
Shelby Kosmecki picked up her eighth win of the season in a complete game victory in the opener while Madysen Wilton entered in relief, coming into the game in the third to earn her second win of the season.
The Racers and Tigers split to open the OVC season last year, Murray State taking the opener 8-1 and TSU winning in game two 7-5. Stephanie Mattocks led the team with four hits in three at-bats, scoring three times in the doubleheaders. Buch led MSU with three RBI and scored twice on the day.
The Tigers enter having struggled as of late, dropping 11 of their last 12 games. Their lone win in that span came in a one run win against SIU Edwardsville. Tedra Alford is one of TSU's best hitters, leading the team with a .329 average and scoring a team-best 23 runs this season.
