Racers Look To Close Season Strong Against Western Kentucky & Jacksonville State

GAME NOTES
Murray State softball looks to end the regular season on a strong note this weekend, hosting Western Kentucky in a pair of non-conference games Thursday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. before traveling to Jacksonville State for a season-ending three game series May 7-8.
The Racers currently sit a half game behind Tennessee Tech for the sixth and final spot into the OVC Championships held May 12-14.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Murray State completes its 2011 home schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against Western Kentucky. The Lady Toppers won the lone meeting between the two schools last season, outlasting the Racers in a 4-3, 10 inning win.
WKU dropped three straight decisions in Sun Belt play at Louisiana Lafayette after having previously won three in a row against Louisiana-Monroe.
Karavin Dew leads the Hilltoppers with a .385 batting average in 38 games played. Kelsie Mattox leads the team with seven home runs, 28 RBI and 31 runs scored.
Mallorie Sulaski is WKU's top pitcher, leading the staff with a 2.50 earned-run average and record of 11-9 this season.

The teams split a pair of games last season in Murray, with the Racers taking a 10-3 win before JSU rebounded with a 5-3 result in game two.
The Gamecocks have dropped back-to-back series heading into the final weekend of regular season play. Sitting in second place in the OVC, they dropped two of three games against both UT Martin and Eastern Illinois.
They boast one of the strongest lineups in the OVC, leading the conference with 70 home runs and 275 runs scored and are second overall with a 2.74 team earned-run average. Amanda Crow leads the team with 15 home runs, 46 RBI and 47 runs scored. Tiffany Harbin has started the bulk of JSU's schedule this season, making 28 starts with a record of 21-8 on the season.
Buch Takes OVC Weekly Award
Lauren Buch earned her first adidas OVC Player of the Week award of the season for the week of April 25 - May 1.
Buch had a spectacular weekend at the plate for the Racers against Tennessee State, scoring six times, driving in seven runs and tallying five hits for a .714 batting average as MSU put up 35 total runs in a pair of 16-0 and 19-0 wins against the Tigers.
She hit a grand slam in the second game, her 13th home run of the season and second grand slam of the year. She jumped back to the top of the OVC batting lead, sporting a .420 batting average on the season.
