The Murray State women's soccer team gave up four second half goals in Friday's match at Cutchin Field against SIU Edwardsville and ultimately fell, 5-2.
The Racers (4-7-1, 1-4 OVC) were first on the board in the 19th minute when Lyssie Wright sent in a through ball to Lauren Frazier inside the 18-yard box. Frazier, then gathered the ball, dribbled, beat SIUE goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley and tapped the ball in for the goal.
Just over four minutes later, SIUE's Michelle Auer found Sarah Doggendorf 12 yards outs, who then shot the ball past MSU goalkeeper Savannah Haberman to knot the game at one. However, Murray State went back on top in the 28th minute when Julie Mooney took a pass from Kenzie Downey, shot, had her shot saved by Pelley, got her own rebound and shot again to make it 2-1.
The lead did not last long as Kourtney Price found the head of Erin DiGiovanni who directed the ball past Haberman to tie game at two for SIU Edwardsville in the 63rd minute. Just 24 seconds later Marissa Delgado scored the game-winner when she shot the ball from about 18 yards out on a throw in.
The Cougars (8-3-3, 2-2-1 OVC) went on to score two more goals in the 68th and 79th minutes. Price scored the first of the two off a free kick near the midfield stripe and was followed by Tory Pitts who scored off a rebound with a long shot that went in the opposite corner of the goal.
Pelley played all 90 minutes for SIUE, allowing two goals and making six saves. Haberman also played all 90 minutes and ended the match with a career-high 12 saves.
The Racers will look to move back into the win column Sunday when they host Eastern Illinois at Cutchin Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
