Racers Defeat EKU at Racer Arena

The Murray State volleyball team won on Saturday afternoon defeating OVC opponent Eastern Kentucky, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 26-24) at Racer Arena in Murray, Kentucky.
The first set was a typical OVC match-up with points trading back and forth. Finally, the Racers (12-4, 3-1 OVC) put some distance between themselves and the Colonels and jumped to a 21-20 lead. Murray State took the next four points to take the first set, 25-20.
In the second set, Eastern Kentucky (13-7, 3-1 OVC) took a 17-13 lead. The Racers tried to make a comeback and tied the score 19-19. The Colonels would not give up, and took the second set, 25-22.
In the third set, MSU jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead. Eastern Kentucky was not able to catch up and the Racers kept the advantage 19-10. Murray State took the third set, 25-16.
The fourth set was a back and forth set, as the Colonels took a 10-8 lead to start. Neither team would give up as the score continued to be close. Eastern Kentucky kept the lead 22-20, but the Racers would not let that get to them. MSU took the advantage and won the fourth set, and the match 26-24.
Four Racers notched double-doubles. Scottie Ingram had a career-high 24 kills to go along with 17 digs. Kristen Besselsen had a career-high 17 digs while also adding 13 kills. Taylor Olden added 17 kills and 11 digs, while Sam Bedard had a season-high 58 assists with her 14 digs. Ellie Lorenz added 24 digs.
The Racers will take the court next Friday at Charleston, Illinois to take on Eastern Illinois. The match is set for 6 p.m.
