Due to continued rains in the Jacksonville area, the 2014 OVC Softball Championship has been changed to a single-elimination tournament. As Murray State and SIU Edwardsville are the lone undefeated teams remaining, the two will play a winner take-all game Saturday at 8 p.m., for the tournament championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
This will be the first championship game appearance for both teams, with the winner advancing to the first NCAA Division I regional in either school's history. Murray State began its softball program in 2010 and has qualified to the conference tournament in each season since, while SIUE joined the league in 2011 and has qualified in three out four years. Saturday will also mark the first-ever OVC tournament meeting between the two teams.
Murray State leads the all-time series with Cougars by a narrow 8-7 margin; however MSU has won the last four games in the series. The Racers swept a doubleheader with SIU Edwardsville just two weeks ago in Murray, 5-4 in 10 innings and 7-2.
Live stats and free live video, courtesy of the OVC Digital Network, will be available for the championship with links posted at the top of this page. Please continue to check GoRacers.com and follow @MSURacers on Twitter for any further updates to the schedule.
