The Murray State women's soccer team begins their quest for the Women's College Cup on Friday as they take on Ole Miss in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Match time set for 7:30 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Racers come into the NCAA tournament off a pair of dramatic wins in the OVC Tournament. Murray State defeated Morehead State 2-1 in the semifinals, as Harriet Withers scored both goals for the Racers including the game winning goal in the 90th minute. The Racers went on to defeat Southeast Missouri 1-0 in overtime in the championship, as Taylor Richerson scored the lone goal in the 100th minute to give Murray State the OVC Tournament title and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
This is the first matchup between Ole Miss and Murray State, however the Racers are 1-4-0 against Southeastern Conference opponents. The one victory was a 2-1 win over Mississippi State in this year's season opener with Richerson and Withers doing the honors for MSU
Ole Miss comes into the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid from the SEC. The Rebels are on a two game losing streak, losing to Vanderbilt in their regular season finale and Texas A&M in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. Ole Miss has defeated three nationally ranked opponents over the course of the season in Texas A&M, South Carolina and Auburn. The Rebels' Addie Forbus and CeCe Kizer were awarded First Team All-SEC Honors this season, while Kizer was also named Freshman of the Year.
The winner of Friday's match will face the winner of the match between Clemson and Furman.
Live streaming of the match will be available on SECN+ and ESPN 3.
