2/18/2015 6:16:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The Murray State women's basketball team fell 81-67 at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky Wednesday afternoon. MSU is 15-6 when facing Eastern Illinois at the Bank.
Â
The Racers (7-20, 2-12 OVC) and Eastern Illinois (9-17, 6-7 OVC) played like any Ohio Valley Conference game was this season. Both teams remained close and fought for the lead as the season winds down to an end and both teams are fighting for a way to the tournament. The Panthers took a big 37-25 lead with 4:13 left in the first half. Murray State would go into the locker room trailing 40-31. Sabina Oroszova racked up 17 points and nine rebounds in the first half. Keiona Kirby led the team in 10 points and three rebounds.
Â
The Panthers came into the second half wanting to get in a better position to make the tournament in March. Eastern Illinois took their biggest lead of the game at the 4:49. The Racers trailed 73-52 at that point. Murray State put on a full-court in the last couple of minutes to fight their way back to a win. LeAsia Wright caused some turnovers and got herself on the free-throw line to put the Racers down 75-65 with a little over a minute left. Â
Â
Keiona Kirby led the Racers with 21 points, while Ke'Shunan James and LeAsia Wright added 12 and 10, respectively. Chanyere Hosey scored a career-high nine points and four field goals game. James and Kirby each dished out four assists. James and Hosey grabbed six rebounds each for a team-high.
Â
"I thought we finished well," said head coach Rob Cross, "We missed a couple of shots and they got a seperations and it is tough to play from behind."
Â
Saturday the Racers face Austin Peay for senior day at 3 p.m. This is the last home game for MSU.
