All-Time vs. APSU: MSU leads 49-43
Last Meeting: MSU 75, APSU 72 – Feb. 6, 2016
The Murray State women look to make it five straight victories on Saturday as the Racers travel to face Austin Peay in a 4 p.m. contest. The Racers' current season-high four-game winning streak began back in early February against the Governors.
The Racers are coming off a 74-71 overtime victory over Eastern Illinois on Wednesday. It was MSU's first overtime game since Jan., of last season against Jacksonville State. Ke'Shunan James led four Racers in double figures with a game-high 24 points. LeAsia Wright added 17 and had four assists and three steals while Abria Gulledge and Jasmine Borders scored 14 and 12, respectively.
With a win on Saturday, the Racers would clinch a spot in the OVC Tournament in March. Currently, the Racers sit in sixth place and are a game ahead of Tennessee Tech and APSU, are 1.5 games ahead of Tennessee State and are just a half-game behind Southeast Missouri for fifth. The top eight teams make the conference tournament.
The Governors enter Saturday's contest struggling as of late, having lost six of their last seven. However, that lone win was a 10-point victory over conference-leading UT Martin at the Dunn Center. Austin Peay features one of the most talented players in the league in Tiasha Gray who is averaging 19.9 points per contest and leads the team with 5.3 assists per game. Gray sat out the first half of the first matchup with the Racers earlier this season. But in the second half alone, Gray scored 18 points and grabbed six boards. Center Tearra Banks is second on the team in scoring this season, averaging 12.5 points per game, mainly off the bench.
The Govs are 7-3 at home this season, including a 5-1 mark in OVC contests at the Dunn Center. MSU defeated APSU 75-72 in the first meeting this season at the CFSB Center.
