APSU Rallies To End Racers' Winning Streak

Austin Peay outscored the Murray State women 52-27 in the second and third quarters combined and had a 30-12 edge in the third period alone as the Governors rallied to end the Racers' season-high four-game winning streak, 81-72 Saturday in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Racers (11-15, 7-8 OVC) came out of the gates blistering as they looked well on their way to a fifth-straight win, leading after one, 23-9. The Govs (9-19, 7-8 OVC) were able to cut the lead in half however in the second quarter, outscoring MSU 22-15 in the period as the Racers took a 38-31 lead into halftime.
APSU went 11-for-16 in the third quarter and hit four 3-pointers as the Racers went 5-of-12 in the third and committed seven turnovers as APSU took a 61-50 lead into the fourth. The Governors shot 58.6 percent (17-for-29) and went 12-of-15 at the free-throw line in the second half alone, while MSU shot 14-for-32 (43.8 percent) in the second half and was 4-for-11 from 3-point range.
For the game, the Racers shot 43.1 percent and were 10-for-29 (34.5 percent) from beyond the arc while APSU shot 50 percent and went 5-of-12 from deep. The Governors held a big edge at the line, going 16-of-20 (80 percent) for the game while MSU was 6-for-8.
Jasmine Borders scored a career-high 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting and 3-of-5 from 3-point range in the loss while Ke'Shunan James scored a team-best 19 and grabbed six rebounds. Bianca Babic and LeAsia Wright each added nine points.
The Racers were outscored 40-30 in points in the paint and allowed 22 points off of just 12 turnovers, while APSU committed 16 turnovers but the Racers mustered just 11 points off of those miscues. The Govs also had a 43-29 edge in rebounding and had an 18-10 advantage on second-chance points.
MSU closes the regular season Feb. 27 when OVC leader UT Martin comes to the CFSB Center for a 5 p.m. contest. The Racers still control their own destiny to make the OVC Tournament in March. A win next Saturday against UTM will put them in.
