Bats Come Alive, MSU Turns Triple Play in Win

Tyler Dixon and Jack Hranec both led the Racers (12-15) with four hits and four RBIs each. Both were career-highs for each. While Caleb Hicks also had a multi-RBI game with three as he went 2-for-5 at the plate. Adam Bauer led MSU with three runs scored while Hicks, Hranec, Jaron Robinson and Reed Thompson all scored twice in the win.
It wasn't just the MSU bats that got it done either in the win, as the Racers turned a triple play in the top of the eighth inning. Nick Moore fielded the ball, touched third and relayed it to Cody Hall at second base, who then fired to Hranec at first to finish the play. It was just the second triple play of record in program history. The first came back in 2006 against Ole Miss.
KSU (8-16) jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. The Racers would soon respond to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Dixon, Hicks and Thompson each delivered RBIs in the inning to jump start the MSU offense.
After Hicks and Hranec made it 6-2 in the second, MSU would get three runs in the third on ribbies from Matthew Dudas, Tyler Lawrence and Robinson to make it 9-2. After the two teams traded runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, the Thorobreds made it 10-5 with a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. Hicks and Hranec would both deliver again to put the Racers back up 12-5 with a double and single, respectively in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The six-run eighth for the Racers featured RBI singles from Matthew Johnson and Joseph McMahon. The ribbie was Johnson's first of the season, while McMahon's came in his first-career plate appearance. Dixon and Hranec both had two-RBI hits in the inning as well.
Chad Gendron picked up his first win in a Racer uniform in the victory. Gendron pitched three innings of relief of starter Brad Boegel. Boegel was making his first start of the season. Caleb Arbeiter and Blake Clynes both made two-inning appearances as well in the contest.
The Racers don't have much time to celebrate as they return to action Wednesday with a 2 p.m. contest at Southern Illinois. The game was originally scheduled to start at 5 p.m., but was moved up due to impending inclement weather in Carbondale.
