The Murray State baseball team was unable to capitalize Friday in its series opener against Creighton at Johnny Reagan Field as the Bluejays took the first of the three-game set, 7-2.

MSU was able to collect 11 hits in the contest but also stranded 11 runners in the loss. Ramsey Scott led the Racers offensively with three hits on the night while Adam Bauer, Cody Gilbert and Caleb Hicks all added two hits each.

Creighton (4-3) was able to score a run in six of the first seven innings of the game and tallied 13 hits overall in the victory. The Bluejays got things started with a pair of runs in the top of the first and then added one run each in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. The Racers (5-5) meanwhile, got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Bauer that scored Kipp Moore, cutting the MSU deficit to 3-1, but that was as close as the Racers would get the rest of the way. MSU added another run in the ninth on an RBI double to left center by Gilbert that brought Reed Thompson around to score.

Jack Hranec was saddled with his first loss of the season as he got the start on the mound for the Racers. Hranec pitched four complete innings and allowed four runs on nine hits while recording a career-high six strikeouts. Andrew Bramley pitched three innings of relief in the contest and struck-out five batters and allowed three runs, two of which were earned. Meanwhile, Chad Gendron and Sheldon Baxter came on to pitch scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

MSU and CU will play the middle game of its series Saturday at JRF. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
