Creighton scored six runs in the top of the second inning and used that to help propel the Bluejays to a 9-4 win over Murray State Saturday at Reagan Field.

The Racers (5-6) started off well in the contest, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. A Brandon Gutzler RBI groundout to second that scored Cody Gilbert got MSU on the board first, two batters later, Ramsey Scott grounded-out to second, scoring Adam Bauer to make it 2-0 Racers.

The Bluejays (5-3) got five hits in the top of the second and scored five of their runs in the inning with two outs. CU was held in check for most of the rest of the contest, but got a three-run sixth inning to lengthen its lead to 9-3. MSU scored earlier in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Jaron Robinson. The Racers added a fourth run in the ninth on an infield single from Gilbert.

Creighton out-hit the Racers 12-8 in the game and left eight men on while MSU left seven men stranded and hit into a season-high three doubles plays in the loss. Both teams committed a pair of errors. Kipp Moore and Robinson led the Racers with two hits each while Gilbert went 1-for-3 with a run an RBI and two drawn walks. Bauer, Gutzler and Hicks had the other three hits in the game for the Racers.

Brandon Hicks took the loss in his first start of the season. Hicks allowed seven earned runs in 5.2 innings on 11 hits. Austin Dubsky was once again solid out of the bullpen for MSU as he pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

MSU looks to avoid the series sweep Sunday as the Racers close their three-game set with the Bluejays. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
