Racers Drop Series Opener at SEMO

The Murray State baseball team lost its series opener at first-place Southeast Missouri Thursday night at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Mo., falling to the Redhawks 10-3. SEMO scored in six of the first seven innings of the contest.
Ramsey Scott and Reed Thompson led the Racers (21-22, 9-10 OVC) with two hits each in the loss while Jack Hranec and Tyler Lawrence both went 1-for-4 with a run scored on the night with Hranec providing the lone RBI in the loss.
MSU's best chance in the contest to do some damage came in the seventh inning when the Racers opened the frame with three straight singles. Lawrence came in to score on a double play groundout from Kipp Moore for the Racers' first run of the game, cutting the deficit to 9-1. MSU was able to score two runs in the top of the ninth on Hranec's double off the wall in right center and then he later scored on a wild pitch.
SEMO (30-11, 19-3 OVC) out-hit the Racers 13-8 in the contest and had four extra-base hits. Hranec's double was the only extra-base hit on the night for MSU. Adam Bauer, Lawrence and Moore all extended their on-base streaks in the loss. Bauer has now reached in all 43 games this season, tying the school record.
Brad Boegel took the loss in the start as he went 3.2 innings. Chad Gendron and Derrik Watson appeared in relief in the game.
Game two of the series is scheduled for a 6 p.m., start Friday. That could change however due to forecasted rain.
