First Pitch
The Racers and Salukis will meet for the second time in a week Wednesday at JRF for a 6 p.m., first pitch. SIU won last Wednesday, 5-4 in Carbondale in a rain-shortened eight-inning game. Tyler Dixon went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI in last week's meeting. Austin Dubsky got the start and the loss on the mound for MSU.
Inside the Matchup
The Racers are 11-18 all-time at home against SIU and have won three in a row at Reagan Field, including a 9-8 victory last season on the last day of March. This will be the seventh consecutive season that the two teams will meet in Murray. Kipp Moore delivered the game-winning, walk-off RBI in last season's win.
Records Fall
MSU tied a program record with 31 runs and 28 hits in its April 2, 31-11 victory over Eastern Illinois. The runs mark ties the record set in 1950 against Lipscomb, while the Racers also had 28 hits against North Dakota State in 2009. The Racers' 31 RBIs in the win breaks the old program record of 28 back in 1986 against Iowa.
Dixon Receives Multiple Honors
For his efforts against Kentucky State, Southern Illinois and in the Eastern Illinois series, Tyler Dixon was named the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, as well as the OVC's Player of the Week. For the week, Dixon hit .619, had five home runs, 12 RBIs and scored nine runs. Dixon's four homers against EIU tied the OVC and school records for single-game home runs. Dixon was also named College Sports Madness' National and OVC Player of the Week for his efforts.
Dixon Sets Program and OVC Marks
Dixon tied the OVC and program record by hitting four home runs in MSU's 31-11 victory over EIU. Dixon became the fourth player in conference history to hit four homers in a single game, joining teammate Tyler Lawrence who hit four in the 2015 season finale against Morehead State. Jamey Bennett of Morehead in 1979 and Scott Pruneau of SEMO also had four dingers in a game. Dixon's four doubles against Kentucky State earlier in the week also tied the OVC and program record for doubles in a game.
