Racers Set for the OVC Outdoor Championship

The Murray State women's track and field team travels to Nashville, Tennessee for the 2016 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday at the Edward S. Temple track on the campus of Tennessee State University.
Freshman Tamdra Lawrence is making strides for the Racers as she holds the second fastest time in the OVC in the 100 meters (11.72) and the third fastest time in the 200 meters (23.94).
Jabreuna Brimlett comes into the meet after running a meet record 13.74 in the 100 meter hurdles at the 50th Annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays. Her time personal best time ranks fifth in the OVC.
It's been no sophomore slump for Vallery Korir this outdoor season. The Iten, Kenya native set a new school record in the 10,000 meters in her first career attempt in the event at the Wash U Invitational with a time of 35.08. Korir once again set a new record her next time out as she ran 34:27 at the Virginia Challenge.Â
Christina Meinhardt put her name in the record books this year in the hammer throw. The freshman threw a personal best 44.61 meters (146'4") which ranks third all-time at MSU. She also set personal bests in the discus (39.91m; 130'11") and shot put (12.96m; 42'6.25") this season.
Jill Jachino looks to score for the Racers in her last conference championship. The senior made the finals in the triple jump in the at the OVC Indoor Championship as she jumped a personal best 11.82m (38'9.5") in the event.
Murray State has won the women's title five times in the history of the championship with the most recent coming in 1992. The Racers have also brought home the Athlete of the Championship award three times with the most recent coming in 2013 as Tonia Pratt was the recipient of the award.
Brimlett and Lauren Miller will be the first to compete for MSU on Friday as they compete in their first heptathlon this season. Start time for the first event, the 100 meter hurdles, is set for 9:15 a.m.
Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's pole vault. The first field events for the Racers will be the women's long jump and discus. Both are set to begin at noon. Track events are set to start at 3 p.m. with the 3,000 meter steeple chase. Murray State's Rebekah Priddy and Ida Mutai will compete in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase at the conclusion of the men's even.
