First Pitch
The Racers and Purple Aces will meet for the second time this season on Tuesday. UE edged the Racers in a pitcher's duel back in April, 2-1 at Reagan Field. Both teams are coming off 1-2 weekends in conference. MSU lost 2-of-3 to first-place SEMO while Evansville lost 2-of-3 at home to Illinois State.
Inside the Matchup
This is the fifth season in a row that the two programs will play a home-and-home with one another in a single season. MSU is just 3-25 all-time in Evansville. The last time the Racers won at Braun Stadium was in 2004. If MSU loses, it would be the second year in a row that UE has won both contests in the same season.
One-Two Punch
The heart of the MSU order has been one of the best in the nation this season as Ramsey Scott and Tyler Lawrence are second and third in the OVC in RBIs with 53 and 52, respectively. Lawrence is also hitting .370 on the year and Scott is at .315. The duo also ranks third and seventh in the league in ribbies during OVC-only games.
Record Streak
Adam Bauer has reached base safely in all 45 games this season for the Racers, a mark that is now a new program record. Bauer passed the previous record of 43 games straight in game two against SEMO on April 29 with a hit-by-pitch in his final plate appearance of the evening.
Scouting Evansville
Trey Hair leads the Purple Aces in most offensive categories in 2016. Hair is hitting .360 with 19 doubles, six home runs and 28 RBIs. Hair has 58 hits and 36 runs scored on the year and has drawn 22 walks. Jonathan Ramon leads UE with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs this season and a .619 slugging percentage.
As a team, Evansville is hitting .285 on the season is is averaging 6.3 runs per game. The Purple Aces are 22-34 on stolen base attempts this season.
UE has a team ERA of 4.04 on the year and is led by Connor Strain's 0.68 ERA. Ryan Brady leads the team with 21 appearances this season out of the bullpen and has an ERA of 1.42. Brent Jurceka leads the Purple Aces with five wins and five saves in 2016 and is second with 41 strikeouts. Patrick Schnieders leads the squad with 60.1 innings pitched and 42 strikeouts.
