Murray State was held to six hits and was able to muster just one run in a 5-1 loss to Evansville Tuesday night on the road in Evansville, Ind. The Purple Aces tallied twice as many hits as MSU and had a three-run third inning in the contest.
After a Ramsey Scott RBI single through the right side tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, UE (25-17) strung together five consecutive singles to open the bottom half of the inning and scored three runs in the frame to break the tie and take a 4-1 lead. The Purple Aces were also able to add a run in the seventh.
MSU (22-24) left seven on base and hit into two double plays in the loss. The Racers were led offensively by Scott's 2-for-4 performance. Adam Bauer went 1-for-3 with a run scored and extended his national-leading season runs total to 61. Tyler Dixon went 1-for-2 with a double while Tyler Lawrence went 1-for-3 on the night.
Jack Hranec got the start on the mound for the Racers and took the loss after allowing three earned runs on seven hits in two-plus innings of work. MSU used six more arms out of the bullpen in the loss, Brad Boegel pitched two innings of relief and Cody Maerz went 1.2 innings.
The Racers return to OVC action with a three-game series this weekend as Belmont comes to Reagan Field for another pivotal conference series. Friday night is Star Wars Night, first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
