Wednesday's Games
The Murray State softball team hosts Memphis in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at Racer Field. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. and both games will be broadcast on the OVC Digital Network.
Last Time Out
The Racers split with Tennessee tech last Friday in an OVC doubleheader, after going to extra innings in both games. MSU had the Golden Eagles down to their last strike in both contests, but in both contests TTU rallied to force additional innings. In the first game, Tennessee Tech scored two in the eighth to rally for a 3-2 win, however in the second game Madison Culver gave the Racers a 3-2 win in the eighth with a walk-off sacrifice fly.
The Memphis Series
After losing each of the first four contests in the series, the Racers have now won three of the last four meetings with Memphis. MSU has won each of the last two meetings at Memphis, in 2014 and 2016, and split a doubleheader with the Tigers in Murray in 2015.
Scouting The Tigers
Memphis has not played since April 12 when it dropped a mid-week contest to then No. 22 Ole Miss, 4-0, in Oxford. It will enter Wednesday with a record of 23-19 overall and at 4-5 in the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers are currently batting .295 on the year, while opponents hit .278 against them. In the circle, the Memphis pitching staff is giving up 2.83 earned runs per game, while issuing 2.1 strikeouts for ever walk. USA Softball Player of the Year Finalist Lindsay Crowdus currently leads the Memphis offense with a .496 batting average to go along with a team-high 23 RBIs. Pitching wise, Christian Novak has served as the Tigers' ace in the circle where she is 8-9 on the year with a 2.23 ERA, a .264 opponent's average, 91 strikeouts and just 36 walks.
Weather Forecast
Wednesday should be clear in the afternoon, after a morning shower. Temps should rise to the low 80's, but will feel more like the mid-80s. The skies at game time will be cloudy, but chance of rain will be low at about 20-percent.
