Saturday
The Murray State volleyball team play their first home match of the season, Saturday, against Eastern Kentucky. The match is part of Murray State's Family Weekend, which will feature the Racer 5K, two soccer matches, a rifle match, and a football game against UT Martin, Saturday night. First serve against EKU is slated for 1 p.m.
Previous Match
The Murray State volleyball team was unable to avenge a five-set loss in last year's OVC championship match to Austin Peay, as the Racers fell in four sets to the Governors, Tuesday evening. Senior Dacia Brown hit .325 and led MSU with 18 kills while junior Rachel Giustino added 16 kills and 10 blocks for her third straight double-double and sixth overall. Ashley McBee also registered a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Becca Fernandez had 25 digs and classmate Katirah Johnson had four blocks to lead the Racers on defense.
Welcome Home Alumni
This weekend will also be alumni weekend for the Racers volleyball team as they welcome past players back to Racer Arena to take in a match. The present alumni will also be recognized during the match.
Home Sweet Home
This will be the first home match of the season for the Racers. Racer Arena has been kind to the team as they have compiled a 40-2 record at home over the past four seasons.
Conference Leaders
Murray State currently has the top two kills leaders in the OVC. Junior Rachel Giustino averages 4.07 kills per set, the only player in the OVC to be above four, while senior Dacia Brown is second in the conference, averaging 3.63.
Anderton Closing in on 1K
Sophomore Callie Anderton is just seven assists shy of 1,000 for her career. She is currently averaging 8.63 assists per set, which leads the team.
Scouting Eastern Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky is coming off their first OVC loss to Morehead State after starting conference play with two straight wins. Against the Eagles, Cassie Knutson had 12 kills and 10 assists while Chloe Rojas had 17 digs and Rachel Woody dished out 19 assists. Knutston is the reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Week after recording 43 kills and hitting .302 in a 2-0 week. As a team, the Colonels are hitting .127, but are solid on defense, averaging 1.78 blocks per set.
