The Game
The Murray State women's basketball will hit the road for a single game at Evansville Tuesday in hopes of bringing back its fourth consecutive win. Tip-off between the Racers and the Purple Aces is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Murray State women's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win Tuesday by defeating Arkansas State, 77-62, at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. The win marked the first victory for the Racers over a team from one of the 10 FBS conferences since defeating Ball State at home in 2012.
Murray State (4-2) used a big second quarter to secure the win by putting together a 13-0 run in the stanza and outscoring the Red Wolves, 21-8, in the frame. Arkansas State cut the lead to eight in the third and 10 in the fourth, but it would not get any closer as Murray State picked up the win in a game in which it led for over 37 minutes. Free throws were a big factor in the win for the Racers as they went 22-for-26 on the night including 16-for-18 in the fourth quarter.
The sophomore finished the game with 28 points, while Lex Mayes scored a career-high 18. Alexis Burpo tied a career-high of nine rebounds to lead Murray State on the boards in the game, in addition to scoring 10 points. Lexi Hawthorne rounded out the four starters in double-digits in the game as she scored 12 and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Evansville Series
Tuesday will be the 27th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Racers holding a 21-15 advantage. The Racers put an end to a two-game skid in the series last season with an 81-53 win in Murray. In Evansville, the two teams are tied at nine games apiece, however, this will be just the second meeting between the two teams since the Purple Aces switched their primary home venue to the Meeks Family Fieldhouse for the 2017-18 season. Evansville beat Murray State in their first game at Meeks to open the 2017-18 season, 89-81.
Scouting The Purple Aces
After an overtime win over Marshall at home, Evansville is currently 2-4 on the season with all four losses coming to OVC teams Southeast Missouri, SIUE, Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay. The Purple Aces are currently being outscored on the season (76.8-64.8), outshot (42.1-38.3) and outrebounded (43.0-36.2). Abby Fiet currently leads Evansville in both scoring and rebounding at 16.0 and 9.0, respectively, while Jada Poland follows at 12.5 points per game and A'Niah Griffin at 10.0.
Remember, Remember The Month Of November
The Racers went 4-2 during the month of November this season, marking their best record over the month since going 5-2 in 2013-14.
That's Why They Call Them Free
Macey Turley is currently shooting 93.9-percent from the free throw line on the year ranking her 15th in all of Division I basketball and third in the OVC.
Perfection
Macey Turley became just the fourth player in MSU history to go 11-for-11 at the free throw line vs. Arkansas State and is now just one of six players to shoot 100-percent from the charity stripe when attempting 11 or more free throws.
