
Racers Ready for OVC Indoor Championships

The Murray State track and field team is set to compete at the OVC Indoor Championships this week. The meet will take place Wednesday and Thursday at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Racers will have 26 athletes competing in 15 events across the two days as they look to claim the Indoor title after winning the outdoor title last May.
High Jump – Wednesday - 12 p.m.
Meghan Fletcher and Ashlyn Oren enter competition as the top qualifiers as they have both jumped 1.70m this season. Jessikha Ribeiro qualified with a height of 1.67m while Jenna Pauly rounds out the group with a qualifying height of 1.61m in one of the deepest events for the Racers in the entire meet.
Weight Throw – Wednesday - 2 p.m.
Jewel Wagner comes into the weight throw with the fifth-best mark in the OVC this season with a distance of 18.04m. Destiny Carey also qualified with a distance of 16.40m.
Long Jump – Wednesday – 3 p.m.
Rachel Hagans leads a pack of three Racers in the long jump as she has a jump of 5.74m this season, third-best in the OVC. Oren and Ribeiro will also compete in their second event of the day.
Distance Medley Relay – Wednesday – 5:50 p.m.
The Racers have the third-best qualifying teams among OVC teams entering the championships. LaMiah Campbell, Amirr Evans, Emma Creviston, and Hagans will tasked with running the 4,000m race.
Pentathlon – Thursday – 9 a.m.
Ribeiro enters the pentathlon as the top qualifier in the OVC with a score 3,459 points. Oren is not far behind as she had the third-best score in the OVC this season with 3,302 points. Fletcher will also be competing in the multi for the first time in her collegiate career.
Triple Jump – Thursday – 12 p.m.
Antoinetta Avant is the top qualifier for the Racers as she had the fifth-best distance in the OVC with a jump of 11.70m. Eleri Gesler and Keyandra Mason also qualified for the event.
60m Hurdles – Thursday – 1:15 p.m (Trials on Wednesday at 2:50 p.m.)
Dontavia Howard enters the event as the second-best qualifier in the OVC with a time of 8.76. Kemya Owens will also look to earn points for the Racers.
Pole Vault – Thursday – 1:30 p.m.
After winning the outdoor title in 2019, Brooke Misukonis will look for the indoor title as she qualified with the third-best mark in the OVC this season at 3.67m. Jenna Pauly, Shannon Riley, and Jessie Kinder all qualified as well as the Racers will look to the pole vault as an opportunity to gain a multitude of points.
400m – Thursday – 1:35 p.m. (Trials on Wednesday at 3:20 p.m.)
The Racers have three runners who have top-ten times in the OVC this season led by Norma Abdur-Rafia who had a time of 56.61. JaKayla McSwain and D'Myia Thornton qualified with the seventh and eighth best times this season.
60m – Thursday – 1:55 p.m. (Trials on Wednesday at 3:50 p.m.)
In an opportunity to pick up points, the Racers will have four runners in the 60m. Kenia Seals leads the pack as she had the fifth-best time this season with a time of 7.52. Jumyia Denning was seventh with a time of 7.60 while Avant and Hagans were both in the top-15 this season as well.
Shot Put – Thursday – 2 p.m.
After competing in the weight throw on Wednesday, Carey and Wagner will be back for the shot put on the second day of competition. Carey is the defending OVC outdoor champion and will look for the indoor title as she had the fourth-best distance this season at 13.93. Wagner qualified with a distance of 12.72m.
800m – Thursday – 2:15 p.m. (Trials on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
Hilary McAdam will look for her fourth-straight 800m OVC title (2 outdoor, 1 indoor) on Thursday. She qualified fifth this year with a time of 2:15.18 while Evans qualified with a time of 2:18.15.
200m – Thursday – 2:35 p.m. (Trial on Wednesday at 4:40 p.m.)
Abdur-Rafia comes into the Championships with the second-best time in the OVC this season at 24.48. Denning and Seals will also look to earn points in their second races of the day.
3,000m – Thursday – 3:05 p.m.
Emma Graf leads a trio of Racers in the 3K as she qualified with a time of 10:30.42. Emma Creviston and Dani Wright will also look to put up good times in the longest race of the week for the Racers.
4x400 Relay – Thursday – 3:45 p.m.
The 2020 Championships conclude with the 4x400 relay, which the Racers qualified for with the top time in the OVC. The race should be close as the Racers time of 3:46.27 just edged out Austin Peay for the time by less than .25 seconds.
