The Murray State Racers (3-2) hit the road for a Saturday game at McKenzie Arena to take on the Chattanooga Mocs (2-3). Tip time in Chattanooga, Tennessee is set for 6 p.m. Central Time. The Racers lead the all-time series with the Mocs 7-2 including their 87-76 win at home about a year ago. The Racers are playing at The Round House for the fourth time and the first since 2010 when the Racers won 73-65.
Racers 3rd & Wood Honored at Myrtle Beach
The Racers had a needed break this week after playing three games at the Myrtle Beach Invitational where they defeated No. 24 Texas A&M (Nov. 17) 88-79 for their first win over a ranked team in 10 years. After a missed opportunity to get a win (Nov. 18), the Racers lost 71-69 on a UMass buzzer shot. That sent the Racers to the third place game against Tulsa. The Racers defeated the Golden Hurricane 77-60 last Sunday.Â
Racer sophomore guard JaCobi Wood was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week (Nov. 22) and was a member of the Myrtle Beach All-Tournament Team. He nearly pulled off a triple-double on 12 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists against Tulsa. Wood also scored 23 & 24 Â points for career-highs against TAMU and UMass. He was an amazing 96 percent (25-of-26) from the free throw line in three games. His 11 assists were an MBI single game record vs Tulsa. Wood is third in the Missouri Valley Conference with 25 assists.
Wood is sure to have a lot of support Saturday at UTC. His hometown of Cleveland, Tenn., is about 30 miles from Chattanooga.
Valley Opener Comes Next Week
The Missouri Valley Conference opener is a White Out as the Racers host the Illinois State Redbirds (Dec.1) at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. The tip off is set for 7 p.m. To commemorate this historic night, a White Out is planned with 5,000 special inaugural MVC first game t-shirts being given out, sponsored by CFSB.
