Murray State picked up a 5-0 victory over former conference rival SEMO on Tuesday night
Murray State baseball picked up a 5-0 win over Southeast Missouri on Tuesday night at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The Racers picked up their second shutout of the season while completing the season sweep over SEMO.
Dustin Mercer led the Racer bats with four RBIs on a two-run home run, his 10th of the year, and a two-run base knock in the ninth inning to give MSU a pair of pivotal insurance runs. Leadoff man Riley Hawthorne collected a multihit game as he gave the Racers two hits at the top of the lineup while scoring a run.Â
Parker Estes picked up a base hit and an RBI in the ninth inning in a pinch-hit appearance to help grow the Murray State lead in the ninth inning.
Pitching was the name of the game for MSU on the night as six pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout over a potent SEMO offense. Allen Roulette earned the start and tossed two scoreless frames before Matt Boynton picked up a pair of shutout innings.Â
Alex Elsing earned his first win as a Racer in relief while striking out three in 1.1 innings pitched. Thomas McNabb picked up a strikeout in a short relief stint while Malik Pogue threw 2.1 perfect innings and earned four strikeouts. Racer closer Ben Krizen struck out the side to close it out for MSU and secure the win.
Murray State will be back in action this weekend when they host Missouri State for a MVC matchup at Johnny Reagan Field.Â
