Kaydee Wooldridge and Alyssa Moore notched top-25 finishes to lead the Racers to a fourth-place finish
The Murray State women's cross country team finished the Belmont Opener in fourth place with 122 points in Nashville on Friday.
"We have a relatively young team, so today's focus was getting experience on the conference course," head coach Jordan Johnston said. "We knew that the second mile was going to be a challenge for everyone since there's a decent sized hill right at a time in the race that you start to get tired legs. But the girls executed a great first mile and I'm really pleased with how they responded in the final 600 meters."
Freshmen Kaydee Wooldridge and Alyssa Moore led the pack for the Racers in their collegiate racing debuts. Wooldridge placed 14th with a time of 18:35.1, and Moore finished 22nd at 18:45.6.
Wooldridge's time of 9:07.5 at the 1.6-mile mark was a seven-second personal best.
MSU running veteran Ruth Kimutai ended the Opener in 32nd with a time of 19:13.3. She averaged just over six minutes per mile.
Samantha Tucci finished just seconds later in 35th at 19:18.4. Her final time was just over eight seconds faster than her finish at the 2022 Belmont Opener. Breanna Day placed 37th to round out the counting scores for the Racers, coming in with a time of 19:24.6.
The Racers will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., on Friday, September 15 for the WKU XC Invite.Â
