Racers To Open Rifle Season at Home

Murray State Rifle will open its season with matches against UT Martin on Sunday, October 6 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.Â
ÂLast season, the Racers won their fourth straight and 18th overall Ohio Valley Conference championship. They triumphed in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions with an aggregate score of 4708. Caroline Martin won the individual air rifle competition with a score of 596, earning OVC Freshman of the Year honors, while teammate Scott Patterson placed second with a 595 and earned OVC Air Rifle Athlete of the Year. Matias Kiuru won the smallbore individual championship with a 587 en route to winning OVC Smallbore Athlete of the Year for a record-breaking fifth straight season.
ÂAllison Henry qualified for the NCAA Rifle Championships in the air rifle, where her score of 586 placed her 23rd in the nation.
ÂThe Navy & Gold are returning several of their top performers from last season. Henry, now a graduate student, looks to return to the NCAA Championships in her final season. OVC honorees Caroline Martin and Scott Patterson are back as well. Freshman Carlotta Salafia competed for her home nation of Italy in the ISSF Junior World Championships in Peru where she put up a composite score of 622.6 in air rifle and a 571 in smallbore.
