Rifle Performs Well in Opener

Murray State defeated UT Martin with an aggregate score of 4721.
Murray State Rifle opened its season with a victory over UT Martin 4721-4639 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. Â
ÂThe Racers came out on top in both smoothbore and air rifle, posting scores of 2346 and 2375. Â
ÂJohn Blanton led all shooters with an aggregate score of 1186, shooting a 592 in smallbore and a 594 in air rifle. Freshman Carlotta Salafia also put together a strong performance in her first match as a Racer, putting up scores of 587 in smallbore and 597 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1184. Â
ÂBlanton and Salafia led all competitors in Smallbore posting scores of 592 and 587 respectively. Salafia led the way in air rifle with a score of 597 and Caroline Martin took second place with a score of 596.
Â"We worked hard preseason while we were here and a majority of us really worked hard over the summer as well," said Blanton. "When we came back we put in a lot of hours on the range here and I'm really proud of everybody." Â
ÂThe Racers are back in action on Sunday, October 13, 9 a.m. CT against Ole Miss at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. Â
