Racers Battle To Scoreless Draw With Red Wolves
8/25/2024 6:45:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Murray State picks up its first clean sheet of the season.
While the Racers created opportunities with five of their 11 shots in frame, Sunday's match with Arkansas State ended in a 0-0 draw at the A-State Soccer Park in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Sunday's result was just the second match in series history to result in a draw, occurring for the first time since 2016.
Murray State and the Red Wolves split six shots apiece in the first half, with both programs placing two of those shots on target. Arkansas State outshot the Racers 15-11 for the match, but the Red Wolves only put three of those shots on goal to MSU's five.
Breece Bass, Tori Schrimpf, Megan Wilson and Mackenzie Tucker all took a pair of shots each, and five different Racers put a shot in frame. Morgan Bodker, Kate Stordy and Hannah Carter recorded their fourth-straight match this year playing a full 90 minutes.
Griselda Revolorio notched her first clean sheet of 2024 and seventh of her career.
The Racers return to Cutchin Field for three of their next four home matches, starting with Austin Peay on Thursday, August 29 at 3 p.m. CT in Murray, Kentucky.

Head Coach Matt Lodge on his team's play:
"I thought it was an ugly game from start to finish. Obviously, we're tired from Thursday which is part of it—again, we're preparing for Missouri Valley Conference play, and this is part of match fitness and preparation for that. [I'm] glad we fought from start to finish. We got a lot of people a lot of minutes. We've got a tough group, and they deserve the clean sheet. I thought we were going to nick it there at the end, but soccer sometimes is a cruel sport. In terms of what that does in the league, that would essentially give us a point on the road—a big point on the road. So, I think we've got to take the positives; first clean sheet of the season [and] hopefully we can keep going from that. But we've also got to take our lessons, we've got to manage the game a little better. I think we got drawn into their game a little too much, maybe we need to get it down and play a little more. 0-0 is never an amazing result, but we also didn't lose. We'll take it in our stride and we'll prepare for a home weekend next weekend."
Â
Head Coach Matt Lodge on his upcoming matchups:
"I think we've got to make sure our home field is a fortress. We have to get ready, we need to pick up points at home [and] grab a few on the road, but I think we've got to protect our home field and it starts next week. Obviously, we've had one home game with Xavier and we took the lead [then] lost it, so we have to learn from that—how are we going to protect our field come Thursday against a good Austin Peay team and Sunday against a good UT Martin team. We're getting ready for conference, [and] if we can take care of our home games, pick some up on the road then we'll be just fine."
