The Racers close out the week with match against the UT Martin Skyhawks on Sunday, September 1 at 4 p.m. CT at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky. Sunday's match marks the 28th all-time meeting between the two programs, with MSU leading the series with a 17-6-4 record.
Murray State is 7-2-1 against the Skyhawks in the last 10 matchups, having won four of the last six times. The Racers have not lost to UT Martin at home since the 2013 season, when MSU fell 1-2 to UTM.
"Another old OVC rival comes to town Sunday, and we are prepared for the battle," head coach Matt Lodge said. "They are unbeaten against Missouri Valley opponents, so we know its going to be a very tough afternoon."
The Skyhawks have started the year with a 1-1-2 record under second-year head coach Mike Varga. Varga, who is in his 30th season as a head coach, has amassed a 260-247-65 record and is 6-9-8 since his arrival to Martin.
The Skyhawks are led by Izzy Patterson, who has scored one of the team's three goals and recorded one of UTM's two assists. The senior midfielder leads the team in shots, has the second-most shots put in frame, and is one of four players on her team to have played full time in all four matches this season.
The Racers enter the match coming off a massive 4-1 victory over the Austin Peay Governors, who drew with the Skyhawks on August 25. Junior Meg Wilson etched in her first career multi-goal game and first career game-winner on Thursday, with senior Mackenzie Tucker scoring her first goal as a Racer.
Freshman Abbey MacDonald picked up her first two collegiate assists and Sydney Etter netted her second goal of the season. Griselda Revolorio's 29 saves this season lead the MVC and are currently tied for the 12th-most nationally in Division I.
"We were happy to score four goals on Thursday," Lodge added. "We will look to continue our scoring form and fix some things defensively. [We're] looking forward to a great game with a good UTM team."
