Racers Fall To Wildcats In Lexington

Murray State comes up short in a defensive battle with Kentucky.
The Racers fell short in a Thursday night clash with the Kentucky Wildcats, 0-1, at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
Murray State held strong against their SEC opponent through the first 65 minutes of the match, before conceding a goal in the box from Kentucky's Anna Sikorski. Unable to make a statement on the attacking end, the Racers only put three shots up in the match.
Nine of the Racers' 11 starters recorded at least 75 minutes of play Thursday night. Breece Bass was responsible with two of MSU's three shots in 59 minutes off the bench.
Murray State returns to Cutchin Field to host the Jackson State Tigers on Friday, September 13 at 3 p.m. CT.
Head Coach Matt Lodge on his team's performance:
"I thought [for the] first half, we were a little under the cosh. Second half—the first 15 minutes of the second half, I thought we were the better team. Unlucky not to get one. A bit of tired legs cost us a goal, and that's understandable. I thought we did some running from top to bottom. I can't single out anyone because I thought every single player off the bench [and in] the starting lineup gave absolutely everything. I'm so proud of them. Obviously, you can ask them to win but you can't ask any more in the effort. They executed the game plan perfectly. Credit to [Kentucky Head Coach] Troy [Fabiano] and UK, they've built something special since he got there and congrats to them. But, I think we'll bounce back and we're in a great spot."
Head Coach Matt Lodge on his team's rest and preparation going into Jackson State:
"It'll help, but next week will be a Friday-Sunday swing which is tough. You get one day less of rest. We prepare for one at a time, we'll give them the weekend off [and] let them get some legs back under them. We'll prepare for Jackson State and then we'll prepare for Grambling after that."
