Lyke's Gem Powers Racers in Friday Opener

Murray State takes the opener against USI on the left arm of Ethan Lyke

Ethan Lyke, the junior from Evansville, Ind., pitched a gem for the Racers. The left-hander hurled seven shutout innings allowing just six hits and striking out five batters. The seven innings are a new career high in innings pitched in an outing for the southpaw. Lyke improves his season record to 2-0.

Jack Wajda earned his second save of the year. The junior from Mokena, Ill. entered the game with two runners in scoring position and two outs in the eighth inning and got the Racers out of the jam. The righty recorded the final three outs to seal the win for the Racers.

Offensively, RBI doubles by Dom Decker in the fourth, Conner Cunningham in the seventh and Luke Mistone in the eighth gave the Racers a 4-0 lead going into the late innings.

Dustin Mercer plated two runs for the Racers in Friday's game, the latter of which scored on a ninth inning sacrifice fly that gave the Racers an insurance run which became the difference in the contest.

The Racers improve to 11-3 in 2025 with Friday's win.
