Racers Face Southern Indiana in Weekend Series

Murray State will face the Screaming Eagles in three game in Evansville.

The Murray State Baseball team will travel to Evansville, Ind. face Southern Indiana in their final weekend series before the start of Missouri Valley Conference play. The Racers are 13-3-1 all time against the Screaming Eagles. Due to inclement weather game times for the series have changed to Friday at 4PM, Saturday at 11AM and Sunday at 1PM.
The Racers split their two contests with USI in 2024.
Murray State enters this weekend's games following a pair of wins against Lindenwood this week (Mar 11 & Mar 12). Murray State won the first game in walk off fashion thanks to a tenth inning solo shot from Will Vierling. The Racers took the second contest 11-9.Â
Luke Mistone is currently leading the Racers in batting, slashing .439/.476/.737 in 13 games for Murray State. The junior from Upland Calif. has also recorded 11 extra base hits. Mistone's .439 batting average leads the MVC.
Will Vierling added to his team lead in home runs with his Tuesday game winner against Lindenwood. The junior transfer out of Mequon, Wis. has hit six long balls this season. His six home runs give him the most in the MVC.
Jonathan Hogart is second on the Racers in home runs. He hit two home runs in Wednesday's contest to put him at five for the year. It was his second multi-home run game of the season and his third of his Murray State career. Â
Dustin Mercer was featured on Tuesday's ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 with a critical catch that saved two runs in the sixth inning of Tuesday's contest.
The Racers lead the MVC in batting with a .325 team average and are tied with Southern Illinois for most extra base hits in the league with 61.
Probable starters for Murray State this weekend are: Ethan Lyke, Isaac Silva and Nic Schutte.
