Murray State comes up short in Saturday's doubleheader in Normal, Ill.

The Murray State Baseball team, (15-8, 2-4 MVC), dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader with the Illinois State Redbirds, (12-14, 4-2 MVC), in Normal, Ill.

Game One

Racers offense:

Dom Decker: 3-4
Luke Mistone: 2-4

Racers Pitching:

Nic Schutte: (L, 1-2), 5 IP, 6 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 2 K's

Jackson Ugo: 2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 K

Preston Chaudoin: 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K

Notable Moments:

With the Racers trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Will Vierling doubled to score Jonathan Hogart with the tying run. That hit extended Vierling's on base streak to 19 straight games.
Illinois State took the lead in the third and put up four more runs in the fifth to lead 6-1 after five.
Jonathan Hogart singled in the seventh inning to record career hit no. 100 for him career at Murray State.
Illinois State added one more run to make it 7-1

Notable Moments:

The Racers fell behind 5-1 after two innings, following a two run first and three run second by the Redbirds.
Ethan Lyke provided 4.2 innings of no-hit relief pitching for the Racers.
Will Vierling went 3-4 and provided an RBI hit to trim Illinois State's lead in the third. Vierling extended his on base streak to 20 games.
Murray State tied the game in the seventh with back to back RBI triples from Dustin Mercer and Will Vierling and a bases loaded walk from Dom Decker.
Jonathan Hogart and Will Vierling gave the Racers the lead in the top of the eighth inning with RBI doubles and Murray State added another run on a Dom Decker sacrifice fly to give Murray State a 9-5 lead.
Illinois State took the lead back with an eight-run bottom of the eighth inning and held on to win 13-10.

The Racers will return to Johnny Reagan Field for a midweek game against North Alabama on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
