
Vogel Makes History as Racers Split Opening Day Matches

Ella Vogel becomes the 16th member of the 1000 Kills Club.
The Murray State Racers (1-1) split a pair of matches on opening day of the 2025 season, defeating Austin Peay (0-1) 3-1 and falling to Tennessee Tech (1-1) 3-0 in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Racers got off to a fast start, winning the first two sets over the Governors 25-21 and 25-18 with a hitting percentage of .323 in the first set and 15 kills in the second. The third set was a back-and-forth affair that saw both teams have opportunities to close it out; however the Governors eventually came out on top 27-25. The Racers secured a win in the fourth set, hitting .333 and surviving a late rally to take a 25-18 set win and the match. Â
The Racers finished with a .259 hitting percentage, 53 kills, 52 assists, 8 aces, and six blocks. Senior Ella Vogel finished the game with 22 kills and 14 digs, giving her a double-double and putting her one kill away from 1000 across her career. Federica Nuccio also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs, tied for the team lead with freshman libero Halle Forester. Freshman setter Katie Titus recorded 39 assists and 13 digs in her first collegiate match, while fellow freshman Mija Pristovnik put up 10 kills. Titus and Haidi Miliou tied to lead the team with three block assists each. Â
The Racers now lead the all-time series with Austin Peay 44-43.Â
The Racers started the second match of the day with a close loss to Tennessee Tech in the first set, 25-22. Despite keeping it close in the following sets, they drop both the second and third 25-20. Â
Ella Vogel led the team once again with her second double-double of the afternoon, this time putting up 11 kills and 11 digs. Her opening kill of the match was number 1000 of her career, making her the 16th member of the Racer Volleyball 1000 Kills Club. Â
Katie Titus led the team in assists with 12, while Paige Brock added 11. Haidi Miliou again led the team with three blocks to go with her five kills. Halle Forester led the way with 13 digs while Federica Nuccio added nine digs and eight kills.Â
The Racers are back in action tomorrow for a Saturday morning match against Xavier at the Winfield Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tenn. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT. Â
