Racers Take on SEMO Invitational

Murray State Volleyball is set to wrap up its non-conference schedule at the SEMO Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Racers (2-4) open tournament play against Weber State (5-1) and Iowa (6-0) on Friday before facing the host SEMO (3-3) to close the tournament on Saturday.Â
Veteran Anchor
Despite their youth, the Racers have had several senior anchors step up in the early season. Outside Hitter Federica Nuccio is averaging 3.05 kills per set, second most on the team and her highest average since 2022. She also leads the team in aces with six. Haidi Miliou leads the team in attack percentage at .259 with an average of 1.50 kills per set and features 8.0 blocks on the year. Morgan McClure leads the Navy & Gold with 15.0 blocks on the year and averages 0.71 per set across 21 sets played this season.
1000 Kill Club
With her first kill in the Racer's August 29th game against Tennessee Tech, senior Ella Vogel recorded her 1000th career kill, becoming the 16th Racer to ever reach that career mark. The preseason All-MVC nominee leads the team with 85 kills and an average of 3.54 per set, fifth highest in the MVC. She also features the second-best attacking percentage on the team at .223 and is second on the team with 53 digs on the year and a per-set average of 2.21.
Youth Movement
Forester leads the Racers with 61 digs on the season across 16 sets, with her average of 3.81 per set being eighth best in the MVC. Another freshman, setter Katie Titus, leads the team and is 6th in the MVC with 133 assists, and her average of 7.39 per set is 3rd best in the conference. Junior setter Paige Brock follows close behind with 82 assists on the season. Another freshman, outside hitter Mija Pristovnik, is third on the team with 48 kills and a per-set average of 2.18; she also features four aces and 45 digs.
Scouting the Wildcat
Weber State is off to a strong start, having won five of its first six matches in Jerimiah Larsen's 11th season at the helm of the Wildcats. Rose Moore leads the team in kills with 71 on the year, being named Big Sky Player of the week after the Wildcats swept their opening weekend matches. Morgan Pratt leads the team in assists, averaging 8.55 per set with 188 on the season, while their defense is anchored by Marley Pratt with 57 digs and Moore with 19 blocks. Â
Scouting the Hawkeyes
The Iowa Hawkeyes are off to their best start since 2009, undefeated through six matches, and did not drop a set last weekend at the Kwik Star Klassic, sweeping matches against Butler, Illinois State, and Loyola Chicago. Freshman Carmel Vares is leading Iowa's offense with 44 kills through six matches. Sophomore Aleksandra Stojanovic is hitting .442 on the season with 39 kills and 18 blocks. Claire Ammeraall has totaled 174 assists, 56 digs, and 36 kills.    Â
Scouting the Redhawks
The Racers and Redhawks are set to resume a long-time OVC rivalry, with the 88th all-time meeting between the two squads, who last met in 2021. The Redhawks won 3-1 in that match, and lead the all-time series 54-33. This season, they are off to a 3-3 start in Julie Yankus' 15th season. Junior outside hitter Lucy Arndt leads the team with 78 kills and is nearing 1000 career kills with a total of 916. Reigning OVC freshman of the week Katy St. John is close behind with 57 on the year. A pair of setters, Megan Holder and Alandry Below, lead the team with 115 and 111 assists. Junior libero Nina Schuberth and sophomore middle blocker Alaina Lester lead the defense with 81 digs and 15 total blocks.Â
