The Racers enter at 1-1 after splitting a pair of road matches to start the season, falling 4724-4702 at second-ranked Kentucky before bouncing back with a 4712-4660 win at Morehead State last weekend. Murray State swept the top five individual spots in Morehead, with Lea Soulé and Mallory Johnson each firing a 1181 to lead the way, and Soulé's 596 in air rifle topped all shooters. Johnson has been one of the early-season standouts, posting a personal-best 592 in smallbore at Kentucky, while freshman Ashley Haymond made an immediate impact there with a 597 in air rifle.
The series history leans heavily toward the Racers, who had won 24 of 25 meetings with the Gamecocks entering last season and then swept all three matchups in 2025-26, including a 4714-4706 win in Murray in November and a 4730 effort in Jacksonville in February. Jacksonville State's last victory in the series came in January 2023.
Murray State will also have Carlotta Salafia and Anceline Brackman back in the lineup after both competed at the ISSF World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, over the past two weekends.
The Racers, ranked ninth in the CRCA preseason poll, will see the Gamecocks again Nov. 20 in Jacksonville. Full results will be available on ncaarifle.org.
