Commemorative Violet Cactus Bourbon Celebrating 50 Years of Racer One Officially Released

Limited-edition 10-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon honors one of Murray State’s most iconic traditions
Murray State Athletics, in conjunction with Violet Cactus Spirits, has announced the release of a commemorative Violet Cactus Kentucky Straight Bourbon box set, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Violet Cactus and the Racer One tradition at Murray State.

The limited-release bourbon pays tribute to five decades of one of the most recognizable traditions in college athletics. The label is owned by a Murray State alumnus, while the product was founded in Murray and bottled in Kentucky's Jackson Purchase region, further connecting the commemorative release to the University and its surrounding community.

"Few traditions capture the identity and energy of Murray State Athletics like Racer One," Vice President & Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "For 50 years, the sight of Racer One racing around the track following a touchdown has created unforgettable moments for our fans. This commemorative box set and bourbon celebrates the people and history that have sustained that tradition while creating something truly unique for Racer Nation."

This limited-edition release was designed as a collectible celebrating Murray State's iconic history. Each box features Murray State insignia alongside imagery of Roy Stewart Stadium and Racer One in traditional gameday silks, creating a distinctive presentation connecting the product to Saturday traditions at The Track.

Every bottle in the exclusive series will be individually marked and numbered, authenticating its place within the limited release. Each box will also include a Certificate of Authenticity featuring signatures from Racer One jockeys, further connecting the commemorative collection to the individuals who have carried on the tradition throughout its 50-year history.

The bourbon itself is a 10-year-aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon bottled at 100 proof and 50 percent alcohol by volume and features a fruity nose highlighted by cherry, baking spices and vanilla. On the palate, cherry and orange notes are complemented by hints of cinnamon and anise before transitioning to a moderately oaky finish that lingers with caramel and vanilla.

A portion of proceeds from the commemorative Violet Cactus release will support Murray State Athletics, allowing the celebration of the Racer One tradition to also make an impact on the department's future.
