Racers Homestand Continues Against Sycamores

The Murray State Racers (18-19, 9-7 MVC) are set to host the Indiana State Sycamores (19-21, 7-10 MVC) for a Missouri Valley Conference series this weekend at Racer Field.
Senior day ceremonies are scheduled to precede Friday's doubleheader, beginning at approximately 12:40.
After getting the series win over Bradley, the Racers improved to 9-7 in the MVC, solidifying themselves in fifth place, ahead of 9-9 Evansville. Meanwhile, the Sycamores remain on the bubble in seventh with a 7-10 conference record. The 2026 MVC Tournament will take place in Carbondale, Illinois, and will feature the top six teams in the conference.
In last weekend's series win, the Racers got two straight wins after dropping the series opener 5-3. In Game 2 of the series, the Racers got a 10-0 win in five innings. Raylee Roby was dominant in the circle, earning the win after not allowing a run and striking out five while giving up just one walk and five hits. Ava Ozment hit the first grand slam of her career, and the first of 2026 for Murray State softball. The following day, the Racers got the win in the rubber match in walk-off fashion. Kenley Minor delivered the winning blow in the eighth inning, a shallow single to right field that scored Parker Holcombe and clinched the 4-3 win for Murray State.
Sophomore Kynadee Warner leads the Racers with a .347 batting average and 43 hits on the season. She also features a team-high 12 multi-hit games and has recorded five RBI on the year. Kenley Minor is batting .302 and leads the team with six home runs and 26 RBI. The sophomore was also named MVC Player of the Week on April 7. Freshman catcher Allie Waldron is batting .336 on the year with 36 hits and 22 RBI, and leads the team with 20 walks.
The Murray State pitching staff is third in the MVC with a 3.89 combined ERA. Senior Bre Haislip (9-6) features a team-low 2.80 ERA and leads the team with 69 strikeouts and 107 2/3 innings pitched. Karlye Graber (5-5) features a 3.93 ERA and 47 strikeouts across 73 innings pitched, second most on the team. Following a big weekend against Bradley, Raylee Roby (3-2) has a 4.48 ERA across 16 appearances and 29 2/3 innings pitched.
Scouting the Sycamores
Head coach Windy Thees has guided the Sycamores to a 19-21 record in her second season at the helm in Terre Haute. After posting a 19-33 record and suffering a first-round MVC tournament exit in year one, the Sycamores are on the bubble for the six-team MVC tournament, sitting in seventh. Madison Poulson leads the team with a .375 batting average and 45 hits on the year. Mallory Chavez leads the team with 28 RBI and has three home runs, joining Hannah Welch and Emi Jeras to lead the Sycamores. Morgan Goodrich is third in the MVC with 21 stolen bases, while the Sycamores have an MVC-high 60 stolen bases this season. As a team, the Sycamores are hitting .270 on the year, the lowest in the MVC, and have 271 hits and 13 home runs. The Indiana State pitching staff features a combined 4.34 ERA, while Lauren Sackett (10-12) features a team-low 3.72 ERA through 114 2/3 innings and is tied with Caylee Gayten (8-7) to lead the team with 96 strikeouts. Gayten has a 3.86 ERA across 107 innings pitched. Megan Asher (1-1) has a 5.19 ERA across 27 innings with eight strikeouts.
