MURRAY, Ky. – A grand slam from Easton Romero and a three-run homer from Luke Mistone powered Murray State to a 9-5 victory over North Alabama in the final regular-season action at Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park.
After North Alabama took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, Mistone provided the Racers (29-24, 13-8 MVC) with their first runs of the afternoon and a second-inning lead. Mistone's homer was his third of the year and brought his RBI total to 51, marking the 2026 season as his second consecutive year with at least 50 RBI.
"Especially early, we were down," head coach Dan Skirka said of Mistone's home run. "They hung a changeup and Luke put a great swing on it. That's when we're good. Not trying to hit the home run but they make a bad pitch and we make them pay."
After North Alabama reclaimed the lead in the top of the third, Romero answered with a 447-foot grand slam to right-center. The go-ahead blast—Romero's first home run of the year—was Murray State's fourth grand slam of the season, moving the 2026 squad into second place for single-season grand slams since 2000.
"He got his opportunity, and he hasn't had as many as the other guys," Skirka said. "Just really happy for him... Tonight his number was called, got guys on base, put a really good swing on a fastball. So, couldn't be happier for him."
MSU added two insurance runs to the lead after Brady Grabowski scored on a wild pitch and Colby Ott added the Racers' final run on a sacrifice fly.
Daylan Pena was the only Racer to record a multi-hit game, knocking two singles to extend his team-leading hitting streak to eight games and his team-leading reached-base streak to 14 games.
A committee of eight pitchers took the mound for Murray State, with no arm facing more than nine batters. Parker Patterson (2-0) earned the win after allowing no runs on one hit in one inning of work.
Jack Wajda logged the most innings among the Racer staff, tossing 2.1 scoreless frames while allowing two hits and striking out one.
Murray State travels to Evansville for a Thursday-Saturday series to close out the 2026 regular season.
