SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Murray State fell 3-0 to Notre Dame on Sunday at Alumni Stadium, as the Fighting Irish's attack overcame a season-high seven saves from Racers goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio.
Revolorio's performance topped her previous season high of six saves, set against Missouri on Aug. 16, and came against a season-high 30 shots, more than double what she faced in either of Murray State's first two matches. She stopped four shots in the first period alone as Notre Dame pressed from the opening whistle, then added three more saves in the second half.
"She's a great shot-stopper," head coach Ben Madsen said of Revolorio. "Excited to see her continue to grow and become more complete as a goalkeeper. It was great to see her have a strong performance on a stage like this."
Notre Dame (1-0-3, 0-0-0 ACC) controlled possession throughout and finished with a 30-4 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. The Racers' defense and Revolorio kept the match scoreless for the first 35 minutes before Notre Dame converted a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Notre Dame added to its lead in the second half, scoring in the 69th and 79th minutes to close out the 3-0 win. Revolorio played the full 90 minutes in goal for Murray State (0-3-0) and picked up a yellow card in the ninth minute.
Offensively, Sami Wilson led the Racers with two shots, one on goal. Breece Bass and Erin O'Shea each added a shot as Murray State was held to four total, two on frame, against a deep and organized Notre Dame back line. Notre Dame also held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks, controlling the run of play for long stretches on both sides of halftime.
Sunday's loss closed out a demanding opening slate for Murray State, which opened the season on the road against Ole Miss and Missouri before finishing at No. 8 Notre Dame.
"We grew a lot," Madsen said of the Racers' tough three-game stretch to begin the season. "We're battle tested going forward. We just have to be a little sharper and keep battling the way we have these first three matches."
Through three matches this season, Revolorio has stopped 16 of 23 shots on goal for a .696 save percentage and is allowing 2.33 goals per 90 minutes.
Murray State falls to 0-3-0 on the season as they look onward to returning to Cutchin Field Thursday Aug. 27 as the Racers host UT Martin at 1 p.m. CST.
