MURRAY, Ky. - Murray State women's soccer scored twice after halftime, including a Breece Bass equalizer in the 87th minute, to earn a 2-2 draw with UT Martin on Thursday afternoon at Cutchin Field.
The Racers (0-3-1, 0-0-0 MVC) trailed 2-0 four minutes into the second half before answering with the two best periods of attacking soccer they have produced this season. UT Martin moved to 1-0-4.
UT Martin went into the break with all the momentum and a 1-0 lead.
"I challenged them to be better, to play with more fight and desire." Head Coach Ben Madsen said of his halftime message.
Murray State opened the second half on the front foot. Reagan Tate rattled the left post 88 seconds after the restart, the first of six second-half shots for the Racers after they managed just two attempts before the break.
The Skyhawks doubled their lead in the 51st minute, and Murray State answered 47 seconds later. Addison Howell found Tate for the defender's first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and swinging the match back toward the Racers.
Griselda Revolorio turned away three shots in a nine-minute stretch between the 55th and 61st minutes, part of a six-save afternoon that matched her season high.
Sami Wilson forced a save in the 65th minute, Ava Roberson put an attempt just wide moments after a Racer corner kick in the 67th, and Abbey MacDonald drew another stop in 86th minute.
Erin O'Shea set up Bass in the 87th minute, and the forward buried her first goal of the season to level the match at 2-2 with less than four minutes to play.
The Racers outscored UT Martin 2-1 after halftime and tripled their first-half shot output, finishing with eight attempts and five on target.
The result is Murray State's first non-loss of the Ben Madsen Era and the first time the Racers have scored more than once in a match this year.
"We created two goals through the run of play, they hadn't given up two goals yet in the run of play." Madsen said, "We just have to execute a little bit better."
Murray State stays home to close out the week, hosting Georgia Southern on Sunday, Aug. 30. Kickoff at Cutchin Field is set for 1 p.m. CT.
