MURRAY, Ky. - Illinois State scored in the 74th minute Sunday afternoon and held on for a 1-0 win over Murray State in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams at Cutchin Field.

The Racers (1-7-2, 0-1-0 MVC) matched the Redbirds shot for shot on an afternoon when little separated the teams. Both sides finished with 14 attempts, the first even shot total of Murray State's season. Illinois State (6-1-3, 1-0-0 MVC) put seven on frame to the Racers' five and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Revolorio turned away six shots, four of them before halftime, and kept a side that had scored 13 goals in its previous nine matches off the board for 73 minutes.

"I thought team defending was really good again." Head coach Ben Madse said, "None of their shots were super dangerous except the one that went in the net… They did exactly what they thought they were going to do, and I thought we played well and limited their opportunites."

Junior forward Breece Bass and sophomore Gabby Ramdeen led the Racers with three shots apiece and accounted for four of Murray State's five shots on goal. Ramdeen forced saves in the 21st and 53rd minutes, and Bass drew one in the fifth. Senior defender Reagan Tate tested the Illinois State goalkeeper again in the 88th minute, and Bass had a look in the final minute of play.

Murray State was disciplined throughout, committing a season-low three fouls to Illinois State's nine. The Racers had not held an opponent under five fouls in any match this season.

The loss was Murray State's first ever against Illinois State. The Racers had gone 2-0-2 in the series since it began in 2022, including a 1-1 draw in Normal in last season's league opener.

Shots finished even at 14-14, the first time this season Murray State has neither outshot or been outshot by an opponent.
Murray State's three fouls were a season low, breaking the previous mark of six against Missouri. The nine-to-three margin is the widest in an opponent's favor this season.
Revolorio made four of her six saves in the first half. She has 48 of Murray State's 49 team saves in 2026.
Revolorio passed Jenna Villacres for third all time at Murray State in career minutes and now has 4,963. She ranks fourth in program history with 239 career saves, 25 behind Annie Fortier for third.
Bass and Ramdeen each took three shots. Ramdeen's 11 shots on the season trail only Bass (21) and Natalie Miller (12).
Bass was shown a yellow card in the 89th minute, her second of the season and the third for Murray State.
Illinois State was called offside three times. Murray State was not called once.
Murray State has been shut out six times in 10 matches and has gone 253 minutes without a goal, a stretch covering every match in September since the Austin Peay win.
