Soccer Drops First Game Of Dafeldecker Classic

Murray State soccer lost in its first game at the Dafeldecker Classic Friday afternoon, dropping a 5-1 decision against College of Charleston in Tampa, Fla.
Trailing 2-0 late in the first half, Shauna Wicker recorded her second goal of the season on a header assisted by Stephanie Gale to knock the deficit to a single goal.
Charleston responded early in the second half, scoring its third goal of the game from Hannah Gmerek at 57:55. The goal was Gmerek's second of the game, her first coming in the game's second minute.
CofC (3-1) doubled its lead in the first half on a strike from Sarah Schaidle a minute before Wicker struck for the Racers.
Sarah Cardamone and Francesca Kentimenos added final goals for the Cougars in the last 10 minutes.
Murray State (1-4) ended the game with eight shots, six of them coming on goal.
The Racers conclude weekend play in Tampa Sunday afternoon, meeting host South Florida at 1 p.m.
