Troy Rallies To Top Women’s Soccer

Despite holding a 1-0 advantage at the half of Sunday's game at Troy, the Murray State women's soccer team could not hold on and fell, 4-2.
Julie Mooney gave the Racers the early lead in the match when she scored her team-high third goal of the season in the 30th minute. The Racers went on to outshoot the Trojans, 8-3, in the opening frame and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
However, in the second stanza, Troy found its offensive stroke and peppered the Racers with 12 shots, including seven on goal. The equalizer came for the Trojans in the 51st minute when Neece Jennings drilled a long shot that went by MSU goalkeeper Savannah Haberman to tie the game at 1.
Abby Reynolds gave the Trojans a commanding lead later in the half when scored back-to-back goals in the 71st and 76th minutes. Just when it looked bleakest for the Racers, Lyssie Wright drove directly into the box and tapped the ball just to the right of the keeper to make it 3-2, for her second goal of the year. However, the Trojans sealed the game in the 90th minute on a goal by Maddie Tieken with just 14 seconds left to play.
Rebecca Bjorkvall notched her fourth assist of the season on the goal by Wright, while Wicker picked up her second on the goal by Mooney. The loss was just the second of the season for Haberman in goal, who ended the day with three saves.
On Sunday, the Racers will close out their nonconference schedule when travel to Jonesboro to take on Arkansas State. That match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
