Racers Falter Late at Austin Peay

Austin Peay was able to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4 and then plated six runs in the seventh to take the lead, on its way to a 10-4 win over the Murray State baseball team Friday night in game two of the series in Clarksville, Tenn.

Hitting with runners on base and in scoring position were huge in the game as the Racers (11-14, 3-5 OVC) went 6-for-22 with runners on, while APSU (12-9, 5-3 OVC) went 8-of-15. The Govs were also 7-for-12 with runners in scoring position, with MSU going just 4-of-16.

The Governors were able to take the first lead of the game with back-to-back-to-back two-out hits in the second inning and jumped out to a 2-0 advantage. The Racers responded to tie the game in the third with back-to-back doubles from Tyler Lawrence and Ramsey Scott scored Cody Gilbert and Lawrence, respectively. MSU was then able to get a two-run top of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. The Racers had the bases loaded with no outs in the inning and were able to score on a groundout from Gilbert and a bloop single from Jaron Robinson.

APSU tied things in the sixth before its big seventh inning. The Governors recorded 12 hits to MSU's 10. The Racers were able to hit for a bit more power Friday night compared to Thursday's loss as MSU had four extra-base hits in the loss. Adam Bauer, Kipp Moore and Scott both had two hits each to lead the Racers, with Scott recording a pair of doubles. Reed Thompson was 1-of-3 with a run and a walk. MSU recorded just two walks in the game.

Brandon Hicks took the loss in the game as he allowed six runs in 1.1 innings of work. John Lollar got the start on the mound for the Racers and took the no decision. Lollar pitched five innings, scattered four hits, struck-out four batters and allowed the two earned runs.

The series finale will be played Saturday afternoon at Hand Park. First pitch is at 1 p.m. Ryan Dills will get the ball for the Racers.
