Volleyball to Host Beacons, Flames

The Murray State Racers (9-7, 4-3 MVC) host the Valparaiso Beacons (10-9, 2-5 MVC) and UIC Flames (13-6, 5-2 MVC) for a pair of Missouri Valley Conference matchups at Racer Arena.Â
The Racers enter the weekend sixth in the MVC following a pair of road losses last weekend. Meanwhile, the Flames sit at fourth, riding a three-game winning streak and the Beacons are one spot below the Racers in seventh. Â
ÂMurray State is coming off a pair of road losses to the conference's first and second-place teams, UNI and Drake. In a pair of close matches, the Racers suffered a 3-2 loss to Drake and a 3-1 loss to UNI.Â
ÂThe Navy & Gold continue to feature several of the top statistical performers in the MVC. Bailey DeMier is second in the conference in assists per set, averaging 9.39 with a total of 620 on the season. Dahlia Miller is averaging 5.21 digs per set with a total of 344 on the season, good for third in the MVC and Ella Vogel is third in the conference in kills per set with an average of 3.98 and 259 on the season.
ÂValparaiso is coming off of a busy week that saw them suffer losses to UIC and Southern Illinois but pick up an MVC win over Missouri State.
 The Beacons are led in kills by Elise Swistek with 218, she also adds 278 digs. They also boast a pair of strong defensive players in Jessica Pickett and Emma Hickey. Pickett is third in the MVC in blocks with 75 and an average of 1.06 per set and adds 104 kills on the season. Hickey is second in the MVC and the nation with an average of 5.93 digs per set and a total of 439 on the season.
ÂUIC finished last week 3-0 in MVC play with wins over Valparaiso, Missouri State, and Southern Illinois. The Flames only dropped one set against Missouri State and swept their other opponents. Â
ÂThe Flames feature the two most efficient hitters in the MVC Kayanna Jones, hitting .437, and Zahria Woodard, hitting .422. Woodard is also leading the conference in blocks with 102 on the season and an average of 1.40 per set. Francesca Venturini is currently third in the MVC in kills per set wit .041 and a total 30 on the season.
