Racers Continue Fall Slate at Austin Peay Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. - Murray State women's tennis continues its fall schedule Friday at the Austin Peay Invitational, joining the host Governors, Western Kentucky, Chattanooga and Alabama A&M for three days of play.
The Racers get started at 2:30 p.m. Friday with doubles against Chattanooga, followed by a combined session against Alabama A&M. Singles follow once doubles wrap, with an Austin Peay player joining the Chattanooga and Murray State group. The Racers are off Saturday morning and return in the afternoon for doubles and singles against Alabama A&M, plus a session opposite Austin Peay. Sunday's matches are to be determined based on how far each team gets Saturday.
- Murray State finished 10-11 last season and 5-2 in Missouri Valley Conference regular season play, winning eight of its final 13 dual matches after a 2-6 start.
- Valeria Chaikovskaia went 12-7 at No. 1 singles a year ago, including 6-1 against conference opponents, and played all 21 matches in the top spot.
- Rebecca Widan posted an 11-4 record at No. 6 singles, the best court mark on the roster, and won five of her last seven.
- Yu Kikawa and Yuna Kadowaki went 5-2 at No. 2 doubles after settling into the position in March.
- The Racers beat Western Kentucky 4-1 last March and dropped a 1-6 decision to Austin Peay in January.
The Field
Murray State is one of five teams in Clarksville. Austin Peay opens against Western Kentucky at noon Friday, and Chattanooga and Alabama A&M round out the field. Murray State draws Chattanooga and Alabama A&M on Friday, then Alabama A&M and Austin Peay on Saturday, leaving Western Kentucky as the only team in the field the Racers are not currently scheduled to face.
