Racers Win Seventh In A Row With Win Over Southeast Missouri
4/1/2018 2:07:00 AM | Women's Tennis
The Murray State women's tennis team recorded their seventh straight win as they beat Southeast Missouri 4-3 in Paducah, Ky.
The Racers now move to 11-6 overall and 5-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast Missouri drops to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the OVC.
"Today was another tough match decided on details and I am happy we were able to get the win. We had to move the match indoors because of possible rain, but the girls adapted really well to the different surface and conditions," said head coach Jorge Caetano after the win against Southeast Missouri.
Â
"We showed a lot of improvements in our doubles, and this was key for this weekend's wins. We talk a lot about how tennis is not about forehands and backhands, only but about being mentally tough and competing to the best of our abilities, so it was very important for our confidence to be able to get wins when we are not playing our best tennis and when we are facing adversity."
Â
"We are finally going to be able to have a full week of practice to work on some little things and we are looking forward to hosting EIU and SIUE next weekend."
Â
Much like against UT Martin, the Racers came away with the first point, winning two matches in doubles to do so. Amina Hadzic and Anja Loncarevic won 6-2 while Sara Loncarevic and Stasya Sharapova won 6-3. Claire Chang and Jeanne Masson were unable to finish their match.
In singles play, Murray State and Southeast Missouri split 3-3.
Hadzic continued her winning streak with a two set win, winning 6-2 and 6-3 for her 16th win of the year and 12th in a row
Aarja Chakraborty won a hard fought two set match for her seventh win of the year, winning 7-5 and 6-4.
Clinching the win for the Racers was Sara Loncarevic, who won in two sets, both 6-2. Loncarevic picked up her seventh win of the year in the process.
Murray State returns home to host Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville next on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 respectively for the final two home matches of the 2018 regular season.
